Frequently Asked Questions

Are these original antique maps?

No — and we say so on every page. They are new archival prints of restored, high-resolution scans of maps held by public archives such as the Library of Congress. You get the map’s detail at museum resolution, on new paper, at a fraction of what an original would cost, and the archive is credited on the product page and the packing slip.

What are they printed on?

Archival matte paper, 200 gsm, acid-free, with pigment inks rated to resist fading for decades out of direct sunlight. Canvas prints are on poly-cotton canvas stretched on a wooden bar.

What are the frames like?

Solid wood, about 0.8 inches wide, in black, natural oak or white, with a lightweight acrylic front and a hanging fixture fitted. Framed prints arrive ready to hang. There is no mat; the print runs to the frame, which is why we keep the map’s own margin.

Why can’t I choose every size for every map?

A size is offered only if the scan holds at least 200 dots per inch at that size and if the proportions keep the whole sheet on the print. A small original simply isn’t sold as a 24×36. This is also why some maps say “aged-paper margin”: the map floats whole on a toned margin rather than being cropped to fit.

How long does it take?

2–4 business days to print, then 2–6 business days for US delivery. UK, EU and Australian orders are printed in-region on the same schedule. See the shipping page for every destination.

Which currencies can I pay in?

Prices are in US dollars. The site shows an estimate in your currency; at checkout Stripe converts to your currency at its rate and charges you that amount. Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link and major cards are accepted.

Can I send it as a gift?

Yes. Tick “this is a gift” in the cart and add a message at checkout; it prints on the packing slip and no prices are shown.

What if it arrives damaged?

Use the claim form with a photo within 30 days of delivery. A replacement is printed and shipped free, usually within 2–4 business days. Nothing needs to be sent back.

Can I return it if I change my mind?

No — every print is made to order for you. Please use the size guide and the “See it on your wall” preview before ordering. See the guarantee and returns policy.

Do you sell the digital files?

No. The print masters are not sold or shared. The archives themselves publish the scans we start from, and links to them are on every product page.

Can you make a map of my home town?

Not yet. A personalised historical topographic map service, built on the USGS’s coverage of every US town, is planned for a later phase. Subscribe to the map-of-the-month email to hear when it launches.
